  • I want to get my upper ear piercing. I think it looks really cute but I'm scared it's going to hurt. My friend got it done and she kept saying how it hurt SO bad, much worse than belly button or lower ear so now I'm really freaked out over it. So I'm just curious, how much did it hurt? Can you use something before hand to numb it a little bit? How long will it hurt after?

    Thanks in advance! :)
  • Best Answer:Oh wow dear im 13 I had it done last sept. IT DIDNT HURT ME AT ALLLLLLL!
    I promise :]
ive had it done 2 times.
matter of fact just pinch the top of your ear and put hot water on it and it feels the same haha....

your ear just feels like it barley got pinched and it gets warm but it doesnt sting...it wasnt painful at all :]
  • Answer:Well, I got an industrial piercing, which is a bar that goes across the upper ear/cartilage. I've had my lobes and bellybutton done too, and to be completely honest, yeah, the upper ear hurts a good five times more than the belly button/etc. It's totally worth it though. Think about it--a few seconds/minutes of pain, then years of looking awesome!

It varies for everyone, though. I'm editing this to disagree with someone below who recommended a piercing gun....

That is TOTALLY sketchy. Don't go anywhere that will pierce your upper ear with a gun! Go to a real piercing parlour, where they will use a hollow needle. It heals much more quickly, and you can avoid the bump that person mentioned.... It's called a keloid or granuloma, and is basically accumulated scar tissue.
  • Answer:Yes your cartilage does generally hurt more then most places, but the level all depends on how you take care of it. It will pinch more when you first get it done, afterwards mine just felt really hot. the worst of it was when i would sleep, i had a habit of bumping it and rolling on to it. Just keep it clean and keep it well cared for and dont touch it other then to clean it until its healed. Other then that as long as you can refrain from bumping it or sleeping on it you should be fine. As with all piercings, if you like it, its worth it.
  • Answer:I'm getting it done in a few weeks and I'm really excited (:
My friend who got it done said it didn't surt at all and said it felt like a hard pinch for like a second. (she got it done with a gun)

If you get it done with a gun it will probably not hurt when they pierce it but hurt afterwards.

With a needle, it will be much easier for the piercing to heal and it will hurt less afterwards.
  • Answer:try and get it done at a place that uses a piercing gun, many places dont use them any more but try at like pharmacies and places like that.
i had mine done with the gun and it didnt hurt at all just a slight flinch.
you will have a lump at the back of your ear forever though i dont know why that happens but almost every one has it.
its not anything to be bothered about though.
after it it will just feel like someone is holding your ear tightly and wont let go but that pain goes after about 15 minutes.
if you get it done with a needle then i imagine it would hurt more as it takes a lot longer for the needle to penetrate the skin and then get the needle in etc where as with a gun its pierced with the earring and over in two seconds.
  • Answer:it doesnt hurt at all
and it EXPECIALLY doesnt hurt worst the yur lower ear piercing
it DOES feel like it got pinched then like 2 minutes later it feels like yu put warm water on it after that it doesnt hurt at all .=]
  • Answer:Cartilage piercings are nothing.
    They're practically painless.
I have three of them and I just got one Saturday so the memory of the pain is fresh in my mind.
Honestly, it's nothing. Just a small pinch.

No you dont put anything on it to numb it.
    That isn't necessary.
  • Answer:It was like a pinch, the healing is what kind of hurt but not unbearable. The thing about it is if you can't take it, it will heal right up if you take it out.
  • Answer:both of mine didnt hurt, but just after it it felt like my ear was burning.

the only time it hurt was if i slept on it or if i knocked it
