04/26/2008Compatible Cable Release for Canon Rebel?
- I have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel xT with an 18-55 lens, and I just need suggestions for what cable release might work well with it. I've already invested in a tripod , so I would only need the cable release for a very long exposure.
- Best Answer:Your camera has a 30 second shutter speed which you can use with the self-timer. An electronic cable release may not work with the Bulb setting* so you'll need to check with Canon for any mechanical cable release to use. For long exposures you'll want a locking cable release so you don't have to hold it down.
You didn't say what length of exposures you want to try. I've used the FotoSharp (fotosharp.com) Day & Night Exposure Guide for years and recommend it. IMO its better to have a solid starting point instead of experimenting until you finally get a good result.
* One camera I own can use an electronic cable release but as soon as the button is pushed the shutter fires - even on Bulb. For long exposures I use a standard mechanical cable release.
