04/26/2008Can you help me choose a palm or pocket pc?
- First, I don't understand what "Mobile Web" is exactly. How do I find out if my fav sites have "mobile web", and how much will this limit my browsing?
I'm looking for a handheld with some gps capability, office-to-go, and at least 2 gigs to store my stuff. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your helpful tips and advice!
- Best Answer:Hey, I have a Pocket PC and a Palm.
I like the Pocket PC the best though - depends on what you will use it for.
If you want a Palm, I would get a lifedrive (with 4gb of internal space I think it was) or if you wanted a Pocket PC, see about getting the Dell Axim x51v - you will have to purchase a memory card though (I think it came with 800mb of on-board space) if you need more than that. You can also get a Bluetooth (or wired) GPS for the Dell Axim from their website.
The Dell Axim also comes with Word and Powerpoint Mobile
Depending on what you wanted, you could get an iPod touch too - but that would mostly be for music... but it works as a PDA too.
Mobile web is like a "simplified" (also known as a "ran down") version of the internet, for PDA's. It does not have as much fuctionality as the browser on your PC for example - Mobile Web has been optimized/modified for PDA's.
The iPod touch has the Safari browser and would be the best for internet surfing if that's what you will mostly be using it for. The iPod Touch safari web browser tries to keep all of the fuctionality that you would normally have.
If you wanted a GPS for sure, you don't want the iPod touch because it doesn't support that (other than the google maps thing)... If you didn't want the Dell axim, you could see about getting a palm or other pocket PC that has it built-in maybe.
