04/26/2008My landlord found out I have 2 cats...?
- I have been living in my apartment since 2004.. I was given 2 cats in 2005 ... today I received a letter from my land lord stating that I am being charged for the cats from the inception of my lease in 2004 ... I have no proplem paying the fees for the cats , but I do have a problem paying from inception of my lease in 2004 , when in fact I only got the cats in 2006 ... Is the landlord in the right ? Please advise me.
- Best Answer:Yes, i would write an apologietic letter to him/her, and let him know that you got the cats in 2006, and not in 2004, and that he re-adjust the fees to take place starting in '06-'08, rather than 04'-08'.
- Answer:Depends on your lease. My lease says if I find out you have pets and you have a "no pets" lease, then yes, mine says you pay the pet-fee from the start of the lease, not from when you say you got the pets.
Sorry, but that's the lease you signed, so you're stuck unless you can negotiate something with the landlord. If you have "no problem paying the fees for the cats", you REALLY SHOULD HAVE called the landlord when you GOT THE CATS. That way, it wouldnt seem so much like you were trying to get away with it.
- Answer:Sounds strange to charge monthly fees for cats. Normal landlords just make you put up a pet deposit and thats the end of it. I really dont think he can legally charge you for the cats since 2004 and his only options are to either kick you out and bill you for any damage the cats have done, or let you stay and you just put up a deposit (300 to 500 dollars usually)
- Answer:i think you should suck it up and pay the difference. it seems he is letting you slide. if i was your landlord, you might be out on your ear . . . so be grateful he didn't kick you out over it
- Answer:Drown the cats and make him prove that you had them.
- Answer:You gambled..you lost. Pay what you owe or the landlord just may force you to get rid of the pets or evict you.
