04/26/2008My External Hard Drive Won't Work?
  • I have the western digital WD2500/032-001 External Hard Drive. I've had it for 5 months and loaded it with alot of important documents. The power light on the front is flashing and not a solid green color like normal and it is not being detected as being plugged into my laptop. I tried on a different USB port and different computer and still no luck. How can I fix this or what can I do to get to the files
  • Best Answer:Try taking the drive out of the casing, and see if you can either plug the drive into your computer directly, or try another hard drive in the casing itself. It's possible that it's not your drive, but in fact the case itself.
  • Answer:The only suggestion I can think of (apart from a corrupted Hard disk) is that maybe it is not getting enough power from the USB. If your leads that come from the External drive have long USB and a short USB cable try plugging them both into two USB ports and see if it powers up.

If your external drive is USB 2.0 and your computer had USB 1.1 then you will need 2 USB ports to power it.

    Try that

    Good luck.
  • Answer:do one thing ...the external hdd ..come with guarantee of 6 months...give it to care centre and tell them to make dvd's of data present in ur hard disk...........
