04/26/2008Gmail or googlemail?
  • ok, now i've just set up a googlemail account because i keep hearing people raving about how good it is!

now i think i must have made an error because i thought i was setting up gmail and its come up with googlemail. not only that but it shows beta!! i don't want a beta version.

please hepl. im looking at it and it looks like a junior has made it. for some reason i thought it was gonna look a lot more better than this.

also is there an alert system or anything special so i know when new emails have come in?
  • Best Answer:There was some copyright issue with gmail in the UK so all UK users have accounts with "GoogleMail" which is identical to Gmail.

Don't worry about the Beta thing, it's been like it since it started!

Google has always been simple - no flashy graphics etc, its what makes it run so fast and allows them to give you so much space!

There is a program called gmail notifier, http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/n...
  • Answer:Googlemail and Gmail are the same thing, users in some countries get Googlemail due to trademark issues with GMail.

    There isn't a non-beta version of GMail.

Google's designers to tend to go a bit Fisher Price, there isn't a great deal you can do about that (short of writing user stylesheets for your browser, not a trivial task).

There are a number of software packages that will poll GMail accounts and tell you if there is new mail. You can also use a regular mail client (such as Thunderbird or Eudora) and access a GMail accout via POP3 or IMAP. Most clients have some system to alert you when new mail arrives.
  • Answer:Gmail and Google mail are the same product, and the same server, but in certain countries they have to use googlemail.com addresses for "legal" reasons, as someone else used the GMAIL name for something else.

As for it being a Beta, that's simply because it's still being developed, and iomproved, I've NEVER had a problem with it and have used it since they started.
  • Answer:ok first of all gmail/googlemail are the same things. the account you just setup, work with both googlemail.com and as gmail.com at the end (i.e. username@googlemail.com is the same as username@gmail.com.) also the whole service is a beta. this is the only version out, all of your friends will also have a beta version only.

    Hope This Helps
  • Answer:Googlemail and gmail are the same!!
If you have a googlemail account and you give your address to friends as gmail, it all ends up in the same inbox. vice versa;)
  • Answer:i use it as my main email i have outlook express coming through it and the notifier set up so i know when i recieve new emails its great !!
  • Answer:They are both the same thing, if someone sends you an email to Googlemail.com or Gmail.com then you'll still receive it.
  • Answer:i thought they are the same
  • Answer:how can it be better than yahoo mail?
