  • kk soo i got two 12" type r's in a sealed box right now in a 1999 infiniti g20t.. i got the mrp-m850 which is putting 800 wats into them.. the 12's rms is 500 each so im underpowering by 100 wats.. i was thinking about switching to the pdx1.1000 digital amp so id be powering them at the right rms.. but the guy at the local store said it wouldnt make a difference? o by the way i was thinking about getting a capactior because when the bass hits the headlights dim.. is that going to affect the performace of the subs or just shows that its draining the battery
  • Best Answer:No, you won't notice a difference.

This is because it takes double the power just to get a 3dB gain in volume.

Instead of the cap upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace (or add to) the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 2 AWG wire.
  • Answer:exactly the same as sparky
  • Answer:I agree, the extra 200 watts will not create an audible difference. They aren't being under powered by that much so the subs will be fine. Also, in a sealed enclosure, subs actually handle slightly less power than in a ported enclosure.

Also, you could get a capacitor to help with dimming headlights but they are pretty much a waste of money. You are better off upgrading the big 3. You should be running 4 guage wire since you have a decent amp. Try upgrading to a H.O. alternator so that you will be creating more current and upgrade your battery. i've had great experience with Optima batteries.
