04/26/2008Can i tax car with an MOT that says different engine size ?
- Just about to buy a VW Beetle 1974 1600, says 1600 on logbook but MOT says 1300 as this was the engine size at the time it was tested as engine was replaced very recently for a 1600 unit after the 1300 died, logbook was updated to 1600.
Will this be a problem at the post office when i try to tax it ?
It is insured correctly as a 1600
- Best Answer:I can't see a problem here, because it is the log book that the post office will take note of for the engine size. The mot and insurance you have to show are mainly to check the registration number and name and address details match. The log book has the larger engine size and so will your insurance paperwork, so you will be down for the correct tax price. This should be fine. If you do have any problems at the post office though, you could tax it online, where you don't have to show any paperwork. You just wait for the tax reminder letter to come through the post, then use the reference number that is on it to tax online with a credit or debit card.
- Answer:Simple answer to the question is tell the seller if he renews the MOT you will buy it. That way you will get a full years ticket and have no worries about taxing it.
- Answer:No, it has a current MOT that's all that is required, the log book is up to date.....its like saying you cant tax a car after getting an MOT because it now has a bald tyre...you will be OK
- Answer:You could well get away with the cheaper roadtax, Just be warned that if you have an accident, Insurance companies will try and find any fault in your paperwork to avoid paying you.
- Answer:No everything needs to correspond in order to tax a vehicle.
- Answer:YES you can but you must inform the DVLA & your insurance about the engine size
- Answer:Your OK.
